FAQ:

1. How do I book the Band, DJ, or KJ?

Contact Paul via phone or email and describe what type of event it is, the time frame, how the load in is for equipment, how much time in advance the band, DJ, or KJ needs to be set up, the date and location.  Paul will email you a contract. Fill out the contract and return a 50% non refundable deposit to reserve the date and then Paul will contact the musicians if booking a band, sign the contract and return a copy to you. When booking the band, Paul will contact the musicians after the contract is signed and deposit paid. I accept Cash, Check, or Paypal plus 3%. Final Payment is due at the event.

2. How long do you play?

Normal gigs range from 1 to 3 hours, but we will play longer if needed.

3. Do you take breaks?

We usually take a 10 minute break per hour or a longer break in the middle of a three hour gig if it works out better for the engagement. We can play break music if we bring an amp or PA so there is no dead time as well.

4. How far do you travel?

Depending on the gig, we will travel if expenses and time per musician is paid. There is a surcharge for any gig outside of Utah, Salt Lake, and South Davis Counties. It is slightly higher to go to Park City or Ogden and much more for Logan, Moab, or St. George. Out of state is possible if transportation, meals, lodging and musicians extra travel time is included.

5. When are you available?

We are usually available in the evenings after 5pm as most band members have a day job or on Saturday. If you want us to play a day gig, I take it on a case by case basis. We try to avoid Sunday gigs.

6. What size bands are your favorites?

We can do a variety of setups, but these are my favorites:

Full Band with Singer(s) 8 or 9 people depending on number of singers.

3 or 4 rhythm, 2 horns with or without a singer.

Most groups start with Sax (me), Drums, Bass, and then your choice of any other instrument combinations (Trumpet, Vocalists, Piano, Guitar, or Trombone).

I can also book out smaller combos for light jazz or background music.

         7. What equipment do you have?

Each musician has their own instruments and amp if needed, for their needs for each gig. I myself play Yamaha Custom Soprano and Alto Saxophones, and for most gigs, I play my King Silversonic Super 20 Tenor Saxophone. For the PA equipment, I have a small setup with a Roland KC-350 keyboard/vocal Amp, and for small to medium setups, a Soundcraft 1000ST Powered mixer. For large gigs, I have a 42" wheeled Rack with an Allen and Heath MixWizard WZ3 Mixer, 2 QSC 2450 Power Amps, wireless microphones, Driverack PA, and a Furman Power Conditioner and use this to drive the speaker setup which can consist of two - 750 Watt RMS Mackie Subs and four 250 Watt RMS JBL Speakers (2 - 15" speakers and 2 12" speakers). I usually bring a Laptop for DJ and break work. I also have additional LED DJ lights, mirror ball, pin spots and truss that are not included in the basic setups.

         8. What are your rates?

It seems like this is the most important question for everyone so I put it last. The best answer is:  "It all depends".  I charge less for gigs close to home (Utah and Salt Lake Counties) and more if they are farther away (i.e. Park City, Ogden, Logan, or St. George). I charge a little more if you need special songs, the load in is difficult, or you need everthing set up more than an hour in advance. I require the band to be there 30-40 minutes before downbeat and I am usually there 75+ minutes in advance if I need to set up a PA (depending on the size of the system), and 45 to 60+ minutes if I do not have a PA.

If you want a small band and you do not want or need a PA system, it is the least expensive way to go. For this setup, I usually have a flat rate for each person you want to have, then add an extra $125 for me to coordinate everything and use my music. We can do a small jazz group or a group with mainly background music with the Roland KC-350 - 150 Watt keyboard/vocal Amp without bringing a large PA system. This accomodates a mic input for a vocalist  or to make announcements and a laptop or MP3 player plugin to play background music during a break without needing to bring a full PA system.

Most gigs with the full band and singers where there is a large space and dancing usually require a larger sound system. If I bring one of the larger sound systems, I add a minimum $150. If you want a Sound System, I start at $275 ( $125 for the coordinating and $150 for the PA) and then add the rate of each person in the band including myself to give you an accurate rate.

Here are some Examples of Pricing:

A 5 person group without a PA where each musician's rate is $125 would be $750     ((5 * $125) + $125 coordinating fee).

A 6 person group with a PA where each musician's rate is $150 would then be $1175  ((6 * $150) + $125 coordinating fee + $150 PA Fee).

An 8 person group with a PA where each musician's rate is $135 would be $1355   ((8 * $135) + $125 coordinating fee + $150 PA Fee).

A 9 person group with a PA where each musician's rate is $200 would be $2075        ((9 * $200) + $125 coordinating fee + $150 PA Fee).

These are examples only, as every gig is a different rate, but the rate per person is usually between $100 and $200 depending on the location and type of gig.

I hope this answers most of your questions. I am flexible and can work with yor needs; I just like to know as much as I can about the gig to give you a accurate quote. Thank you, Paul
